This weekend, I marked the arrival of spring with a combination of (pen)ultimate frisbee, karaoke, afternoon naps, strawberry shortcake, and a daring aquatic rescue. On Saturday night, a few of us went to a party on Beacon Street, hosted by the appropriately-named Green Line Guys, our Brookline counterparts. They had a room set up for karaoke, so we scoped out the scene, and it was not long before Steve, Andrew, and I performed Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" to a slightly unreceptive crowd. The three of us decided that an individual competition was in order and Andrew laid down the gauntlet with an inspired version of Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me". I attempted to woo the crowd with a power ballad by Warrant, while Steve enthusiastically belted out "You Give Love (A Bad Name)". We became slightly more drunk and distracted, leading us to entirely forget about our Sudden Death Playoff Karaoke Battle. Janet proved to be very competent rapper, teaming with me for "I Got a Man", which the two people on the futon seemed to enjoy.
*Flashback to Saturday afternoon* I heard a loud noise coming from near the front door, but I paid little attention since it was probably our fish, who are certifiably insane. As I passed the fish tank a while later, I noticed that one of the Pacus (they don't have names, we just call them by their species) had managed to lodge itself in a hole in our miniature coral reef. It wasn't moving at all, so I thought we may have a dead fish on our hands. I reached into the tank and lifted up the reef, causing the fish to spazz out and free itself from the hole, relatively unscathed. You're welcome, Pacu.
At present time, Liz Cate is running the Boston Marathon...you can check her progress here.
