Smells Like Dudes in the Living Room
After a long trip on the Peter Pan express to New York City, Irf and I battled some intense sidewalk traffic and finally made our way to the subway that took us to Queens and, subsequently, Spiro. Within an hour of arriving, we headed out to the Beer Garden to meet up with the Country Gents and their women. I was pretty impressed by the Beer Garden, which appears to just be a hole-in-the-wall type bar, but then opens up into an outdoor courtyard that seats hundreds of people once you walk out the back door. We had many a pitcher of pilsner, discussed the differences between call girls and prostitutes, and talked about the general merits of Pokey Reese and his crooked cap. Afterwards, we went to Cyprus Deli and, even though we were the only ones there, it took them 40 minutes to make us 3 sandwiches. This was largely due to interactions like this:
Spiro: I'll have the Cuban.
Greek Guy: What kind of meat?
Spiro: I'll have the Cuban.
Greek Guy: You want cheese?
Spiro: I want everything that is listed here (points to description of "The Cuban")
Greek Guy: You want salami?
The guy ended up making Spiro the wrong sandwich anyway, but we devoured the subs once we got home....then Irf and I had to put up with some "hot sleeping" as we shared the futon, making our best attempts not to accidentally cuddle. We're off to see the Gents in Central Park.
