I Hear You Knockin', but You Can't Come In
I went on a man-date on Friday with Brendan, since Sheri is out of town. We went to see Garden State, which I've been pretty excited to see ever since I saw the previews during Eternal Sunshine. It was pretty unique and funny, though it felt a little incomplete...leaving me wanting an extra 20 minutes of film. I suppose that's better than wanting to leave the theater 20 minutes before the credits roll. On Saturday, we had a little party at Boston Ave...commemorating 3 years of The Guy, Big Dirty Hotel Mattress, and Irf refusing to shut the bathroom door. It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about those things. Anyway, we started off the night with a car bomb and then played Beirut and flip cup until wrestling matches broke out, people were attacked while sleeping in their beds, and others ended up with mysterious hieroglyphics written on them. All in all, it was an entertaining night and a nice, if unusual, send-off for Irf, Steve, and Hufton.
Yesterday, I played tennis with Fernald and Irf before I dropped Fernald off at the airport for his flight to Chicago. We played at the West Medford courts instead of playing at Tufts, which means the fences surrounding the court are a few feet lower. I think I spent more time outside the court chasing after tennis balls than I did actually playing tennis. Either way, it was nice to get outside for a little while, since Sunday was basically the nicest day ever. Later in the evening, I got to enjoy another Red Sox victory against Chicago. Speaking of which, I'd like to address what could be the the most untimely sports prediction ever:
"The Red Sox won't make the playoffs this year. They need to be able to go on a streak and put some wins together, but they don't have the team to do that."
-Jackie "The Greek" Oolders, 8/16/04
Since this time, the Sox have won 6 in a row and 12 of their last 15. Jacko might wish to find a career outside of sports analysis.
On a final and entirely unrelated note, if I was going to try to set a world record of some sort, I'm almost positive it wouldn't be this one.
