Living the Dream
I must say, I had a pretty good weekend. I met my cousin Sean at Ned Devine's on Friday night. We got to catch up a little bit, since I'd only seen him twice since he got back from Iraq in October. Ned Devine's is a pretty cool bar...though their house band for the evening certainly upped the "cheese factor" for the night. They called themselves Darick and the Funbags and performed medleys of Journey, Aerosmith, and Sir Mix-a-Lot while wearing silly hats and sunglasses. I was embarassed for them, but the crowd seemed to enjoy their performance.
On Saturday, which was apparently fighting for the title of "most hot and humid day ever", I went to lunch with my sister and Jen Hufton at Cafe Soleil in Teele Square. We spotted Steve walking down the street, so we picked him up and took him with us. Afterwards, I went golfing in Lexington with Irf and Brendan. For the first time ever, we got there early, allowing Brendan to live out his dream of hitting warm-up drives in the "cage" before we teed off. I'm not sure if his dream included sweating through his shirt before we got to the first tee, but the weather helped that come true as well.
On Saturday night, Irf, Brendan and I went to An Tua Nua with our new roommate Mike. Steve was already there with people from Mclean and Bates, so we hung out with them for a while and then hit the dance floor with underwhelming enthusiasm. I volunteered as the designated driver for the night, so we packed 7 people into the Red Dragon on the way home, making a pit-stop in Porter Square to drop off Balicki, Heather, and Jess, which brought us back down to 4 people. Then, for the second time that day, we passed Steve as he was walking down Holland Ave past Davis Square and picked him up.
Yesterday, I went up to my house in Londonderry for a little rest and relaxation. I took a swim and got to hang out with the fam for the day, which is always nice. Later, I returned to Boston Ave, where chaos had broken out. Due to our "transition" period of people moving out and moving in, the common areas of the house are packed with "stuff". Somehow, we now have 6 televisions and 2 X-Box consoles. When I came home, I got to join a 4 on 4 two-television game of Halo, which was certainly a novelty. There was something that felt a bit excessive about the whole thing, but it was still amusing. I can only imagine the technological configurations that Mike will have put together by the time I get home today...I'm guessing either Surround Sound in the bathroom or a Super Computer built into the refrigerator. I'll let you know which one it is.
