I'm Walking into Spiderwebs

Welcome back from the long weekend. It's nice to finally be back at work, huh? I had a nice and relaxing three-day stretch, which I started by going to Orleans on Friday night with Liz Cate, Mike, and Jimmy. There wasn't much going on there, so we went to the Burren to finish the night. I ended up working on Saturday morning for a few hours, which went by surprisingly fast. On Sunday, I went to my house in Londonderry, where my parents cooked up a feast of lobster and steak for us and my aunt's family. I stayed over in Londonderry on Sunday night and went golfing on Monday morning with Jacko, my Dad, and the ubiquitous Joe Taranto. It was a tough round with outrageously difficult greens but, as far as Monday morning activities go, playing nine holes proved to be better than working.

I rearranged my room a little bit last night and, though I did not consult A Master Course in Feng-Shui, I think the new set-up should do a nice job of channeling positive energy. Or at least give me more room to put stuff. I experienced a very unpleasant surprise when I ended up face to face with a brown recluse spider, who was belaying his way down from my ceiling. For those of you who don't know, this is the same brown recluse that was the prime suspect in a spider bite that I got on my shin while sleeping a few years back. As the lucky recipient of this bite, I also got a softball-size bruise on my leg and continuous nausea/vomitting as part of this Deluxe Brown Recluse Package. During this latest confrontation, I came out on top, as the spider ended up on the bottom of my Adidas sandal.

This morning, I realized that the cruelest thing I could have done to my semi-conscious self was move my alarm clock to the other side of the bed while rearranging my room. I think I made at least five blind swats to my right side, where my alarm normally is, before turning over and looking at the wall on my left, which is the present location of my hanging alarm clock.

And now, for no reason at all, the results of the BBC Top Screen Scientist Poll. Let me know if you agree with the results.
