Brendan Van Halen and the Case of the Missing Guppies
First and foremost, I must tell you that there is a navy destroyer immediately outside the kitchen window in our office (remember, my office is on a pier), and it...is...awesome. I mean, I'm usually not impressed by this kind of stuff, but this ship is huge. We usually have the Spirit of Boston docked outside of our office, which is pretty big, but we have to look down from our window to see it. To see the top of the destroyer, you have to press yourself against the window and look straight up. This has made for a nice little distraction from the workday, as everyone stopped what they were doing to check this thing out.
The five current residents of 23 Boston Ave will combine to work 20 hours between today and Monday. Unfortunately, I will be working 16 of them. Mike doesn't work, Brendan's boss thinks he's in Florida, taking a class that was actually cancelled, Jimmy took the day off for the Sox game, and Timmy is taking a half day. I'll be the only one working on Columbus day...boo hoo.
Last night, Brendan bought some new fish to provide the two Pacus with some company. Unfortunately, the Pacus didn't get the memo that these were supposed to be their new friends, so they ate 4 of them, leaving the one tiny remaining fish to live in a state of perpetual panic until his days are through. About two hours after Brendan put them in the tank, he said "Let's see how the new fish are doing!", which was immediately followed by "Where are all the new fish?".
I have discovered a new feature within our "On Demand" service through Comcast. In the music section, amongst the many music videos available for viewing, is a section for guitar lessons. Brendan decided that he wanted to learn how to play, so we took out a few acoustic guitars and tried to run through some of the lessons. The cheesy jokes and condescending tone of the instructors was enough to keep us entertained. Also, Brendan is terrible at playing guitar, which is entertaining in and of itself. We tried a basic song that they made up on the "chord basics" lesson, then we attempted to tackle "Born to Be Wild", "American Pie", and "Iron Man", none of which were complete successes. It was fun anyway, and now our roommates think we're crazy. Here's hoping for a Sox victory to wrap things up today. I'll see you Monday (or Tuesday, for some of you).
This site is filled with explanations of mistakes that have occured in movies. The facts are sometimes interesting, often useless, but always a good time-waster if your Friday afternoon is dragging.
