I couldn't quite finish the weekend recap yesterday, so I'll continue now.

Late Saturday morning, Irf, Julia, Brendan, Hufton, and I drove up to Jacko's place to pick him up before the wedding. We hung out at Jack's apartment for a little while, waiting for Jack to get ready. Further delays were caused by Ricky, who was a little freaked out by all of the people in his house. He was hiding under a ledge above his cage, and it took Jacko a little while to get him back into the cage. I was busy trying to prepare the notes for my speech, and Irf kept himself entertained by repeatedly pushing open the bathroom door to expose the naked groom-to-be, much to Jacko's chagrin. I cannot even bring myself to describe exactly what happened when Jack attempted to retaliate, but I will say that Hufton was caught in the crossfire, despite being an innocent bystander.

When everyone was ready, we left for Durham, where we went out for lunch and treated Jack to his last meal as a single guy. After lunch, we all headed over to the hall to get ready, get pictures taken, get pictures taken of us getting ready, etc. Jack was surprisingly calm throughout the entire day. If you had to guess which one of us was getting married, you probably would have guessed that I was, since I was taking deep breaths all day in an attempt to calm my nerves for the speech. I wasn't really concerned about embarrassing myself. After all, I do that on a daily basis, so I'm used to it. I was more concerned about giving them a nice toast without screwing up so badly that it actually took away from the wedding.

The ceremony went off without a hitch, and it was emotional enough to leave Meg and Irf crying. Just a cliche single tear for Irf, though. Upon exiting the hall, both Hufton and I managed to step on the dresses of the girls we were escorting (luckily, neither of them were accidentally disrobed during the incident, lowering the embarassment factor for all involved). Though I ended up cutting a lot of it on the fly, the speech seemed to be pretty well received. If you looked closely, you would have seen my hand shaking while I raised my glass of champagne.

The reception was a lot of fun, except for the part where we young folk were expected to "get the dance floor going". Nothing says awkwardness like watching people dance when they're not quite ready. As Hufton said, "We're taking one for the team." Other highlights included Meg's brother, Robbie, doing a mean version of the robot, Rudman doing his ubiquitous "climbing the ladder" dance, and Robbie's date lip-synching and acting out Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You".

After the reception, we went across the street to the Tin Palace to watch the Sox take home Game 2 of the Series. Speaking of which, you can play this before the game tonight to get yourself psyched up. I'm just looking forward to seeing how silly Pedro looks in a batting helmet.
