Waking Life

Last night, I received a package in the mail that I really didn't want. It was the padded envelope that held the passport renewal application that I mailed out on Saturday -- sent back because I was 18 cents short on postage. No, I'm not an idiot, I just have bad luck...one of the stamps fell off. Because of this, I had to realized, I would have to overnight it today before work. This is also the day I had scheduled to pick up my car (the Red Dragon is fine, by the way...the tensioner snapped, setting me back a semi-reasonable $300 and causing me to ask "What is a tensioner and what is it doing in my car?"). That meant that this morning, I would have to walk to the Auto Shop, drive my car back to Boston Ave, walk to the Post Office (conveniently located next to the commuter rail) to overnight my renewal forms, then catch the 8:27 commuter rail. If there was one day to not oversleep, this would be it.

So, I woke up at 7:55 (40 minutes after my alarm) and began a sprint down the stairs to the shower. By 8:10, I was dressed and out the door. I ran to the auto shop, picked up the car (which also needs a "major tune-up" in the near future), drove back to Boston Ave, sprinted to the Post Office, waited in line, filled out the forms they gave me, waited in line again, handed over the cash and took my receipt as the bell for the commuter rail was ringing. Whew.

Andy Bean was not able to join us for our game of Texas Hold 'Em last night, citing "reasons: (1) moderate to heavy drinking thursday through monday night have left me in a sour state (2) going to nyc this weekend, so i need to get all my work done early" plus a third reason that I won't mention in order to avoid fines from the FCC. I got to the finals against Timmy, who, despite having about 80% of the chips going into the finals, nickeled and dimed me to death for an hour before he beat me. As we play, second place gets your money back. Though, as Brendan prefers to tell me "You just sat here for 3 hours for nothing". Thanks Brendan.

And you thought the Grilled Cheese Virgin Mary auction on Ebay was strange? Try this one.
