As Exciting as Something That's Not Very Exciting!
A terrible thing happened last night. Ooh, scratch that...it really makes it sound like something bad happened, but don't worry because it didn't. Okay, an interesting thing happened last night. Uh, that's no good. Now your hopes are probably set too high...thinking something along the lines of Brendan hitting the Lotto, but accidentally setting fire to the winning ticket...or something else peculiar, like Dennis Rodman stopping by Boston Ave to borrow a cup of sugar. Alright, here it is: Something happened last night. Perfect. It was 9:30, and I was keeping an eye on the clock, ready to go to bed in the relatively near future. Poker was proposed, and I tentatively accepted, knowing that I'd have to play super-aggresive so I could either win or lose by 11:30. Not only was the Play n' Stay option out the window, but I was now personally susceptible to The Sandman strategy. I lost big to Mike right at the outset, leaving me short-stacked for most of the game. My luck changed after a few hands, allowing me to take a few sizable pots. Still, the clock was ticking, and I needed to be done with the game soon, win or lose. When the next cards were dealt, I told Mike and Brendan -- the two other remaining players -- that I was going all in without looking at my cards. That was a little unnerving, but it's a pretty tough choice for them, too. Mike decided to call me, then showed his cards: an Ace and a two. I flipped mine over: Ace, nine. Amazing luck, I thought. Neither of us got a pair, but the way the hand worked out, we ended up splitting the pot...a disappointing result. I made the same play on the next hand, but this time Brendan was the one to call me. He had a king and queen. When I flipped my cards, I was showing a pair of 3's. I just needed a terrible flop with no other pairs and I would have been fine....but no. The last card on the table gave Brendan a royal straight. It was midnight, and certainly time for me to get to bed.
Wow, that little story was a lot longer than I had intended, which is possibly due to the fact that I've just been adding little pieces to it throughout the morning. Also, I'm realizing that poker can't be that fun to read about. Then again, neither is most of the stuff I write...but you're still here, aren't you?
Thanks to those that have voted in the latest blog poll. When I wrote the question regarding Britney Spears' future baby, I knew that there was a trend of bizarro celebrity baby names, but I didn't realize that it was an epidemic. Read this list to see some of the worst. I believe that the "Most Cringe-Worthy" award goes to Ving Rhames' daughter "Reignbeau", while Jermaine Jackson's son "Jermajesty" gets the "Laugh Out Loud" honors.
