Gonna Have Some Fun, Show You How It's Done...

I guess I should mention that there's a new blog poll over there <----, beyond Keith Moon, though it seems that a few of you have noticed already. Anyway, on with the show... I was walking across the street amongst a group of fellow commuters at North Station this morning, when I heard someone singing. I was in front of him, so all I could discern was that he was an older man with an absolutely terrible voice. I recogized the song right away as "The Seeker" by The Who...."They call me the seeker...I been searching low and hiiiiiiieeeeeeee". He belted it out right in the middle of everyone. I figured he was listening to headphones and singing along maybe a little louder than he thought -- like time I was on the Red Line and this big black guy with red nail polish gave all passengers a rousing falsetto rendition of a few Whitney Houston songs he was listening to. As we parted ways, I turned around and saw that he was just an average commuter: Probably late 50's/early 60's, wearing shirt and tie, but no headphones. I'm not sure who I expected to see...maybe someone more like that character Steve Buscemi played in Mr. Deeds.

I've talked to a few people who wish that their lives just had a soundtrack. You know, different songs that played and changed depending on what mood you're in. It would be kind of nice. Maybe this guy was just creating his own life soundtrack as he went along, and he decided that this was the kind of Friday morning that called for a selection from The Who. In that respect, I was slightly jealous. I'm far too self-conscious to sing out loud to myself in public places. The funny thing is, everybody was so uncomfortable with the situation that nobody would look at him. Maybe they were saddened by the thought of this man who had clearly lost his marbles. Perhaps they were offended by someone forcing their own voice upon the code of commuter silence. Or maybe they were just jealous of his soundtrack.

If you were going to sing out loud right now to your co-workers or fellow students, what song would you pick?

This link is almost exclusively for Irfan's benefit.

For the rest of you, here's a little somethin' somethin' about the Farrelly brothers and their new Red Sox movie, Fever Pitch.
