Rock N' Read
After work yesterday, I was too tired to go to the gym. Well, I'm sure I had enough energy to go to the gym, but the working out part would have been too exhausting. Anyway, during our meeting, Jack had mentioned a few books that I should check out. I decided that the Medford Public Library would be a good place to get them, so I stopped there on my way home from the office. After just a few minutes in the library, I realized what an under-utilized source of education and entertainment the library really was, at least for me personally (I know Hufton spent plenty of time there). Instead of paying for books, they're free. Brilliant! Who came up with this idea? I'd like to shake their hand. Then again, they're probably dead by now, so scratch that.
I applied for my library card, checked the computer, and wrote down the number corresponding to a few books I was looking for. I went looking for the first one, which was located in Fiction between L and T. No dice. It's listed as "available", but seems to have been misplaced. On to the next book. This is simply listed under BIOG Wilson, S. Easy enough, right? Wrong. There is no "Biography" sign hanging over any particular section, as there was with the books of Fiction. After 4 years of college, I'm unable to track down a book in a library. Grrr. While wandering aimlessly through the stacks (slappers only!), I stumbled upon a little yellow poster which listed the number ranges of different types of books. I feel like this poster should have been displayed MUCH more prominently. Anyway, I couldn't find a listing for biographies, but I found something close, so I continued my hunt. After five minutes of seeing only foreign language, travel books, and Cruise Vacations for Dummies (what the?), I gave up and continued wandering aimlessly. It was only at this time that I accidentally stumbled upon the biography section, located my book, and was able to leave leave the Medford Public Library with my chin held high. After all, not every 26 year-old man is able to successfully locate and borrow a book from the library. You need a card.
After returning home for a bite to eat, I drove to the Kendall Square Cinema, where I was meeting Liz Cate. We went to see Rock School, a documentary about the very school that School of Rock was based on. The movie was definitely entertaining and even provided an extra laugh for me this morning, when I heard The Bangles on the radio. When I was a kid, I wondered why they would name an all-female band after a football team. I digress. Watching Paul Green -- the owner of the school -- work his magic was bizarre and hilarious all at once. Picture Jack Black, but louder, with more energy and a dirtier mouth. It may be worth the price of admission just to see a twelve year-old play some of the nastiest guitar solos you've ever heard. I honestly don't know how much more this kid can improve his guitar playing. Overall, I'd give the movie a 3 out of 4 stars. Sorry if my thoughts seemed scattered in this paragraph, I kept on losing my train of thought when I was making the links.
That's it for today. I'll see you back in MesteeBlogger land tomorrow.
