Tan and a Haircut, Two Bits!
I'm not sure why the comments section isn't properly registering the number of comments, but I don't pay for it, so I can't complain. Just keep checking them even if it says there aren't any new comments.
Brendan, if you feel like you know what's going to happen next, you're probably right.
I got my hair cut at Hair's Karen yesterday. I recognized the woman who was washing my hair, as she has cut my hair on several occasions. It seemed as if she remembered me from her initial observations ("You still live around here?), but then I think she just started taking wild guesses about my life in general...
Washing Woman: So are you still working at Home Depot?
Me: Uh, no...I work at Fidelity.
WW: Oh, right. Are you taking any time off this summer?
Me: Yeah, I'll be in Maine next week.
WW: Oh, of course...that's where you're mother is, right?
Me: Um, she'll be there, but she actually lives in New Hampshire.
After she had washed my hair with shampoo and lathered it with conditioner, she had to answer the phone, leaving me with my head in the sink. The phone call took WAY longer than I was expecting, so I eventually sat up and waited for her. I think she must have lost track of the process, because I believe she had taken the conditioner and lathered, rinsed, repeated...and repeated again. That's right, she went triple time on the conditioner. "Maybe she just thought you had really dirty hair," Brendan suggested after hearing this.
After I got my hair cut (giving me what is possibly my shortest post-millenium haircut!), I went to the gym...but on my way, I stopped for a little tan-o-rama. This time, I was prepared. The gold eye-stickers? I've mastered them. Fan controls? I know what's up. How long in the booth? Eight minutes, thank you. It seemed to go well, until right before I went to bed last night and realized that I had myself a little sunburn. Doh! Also, it became clear that this bed was not tanning all areas equally, making me familiar with the phenomenon of "side-striping". Also, seemingly random portions of my lower legs had color, while other parts just seemed immune to the rays. Someday, I'll learn.
