No Alarms and No Surprises

I began to make my cherished Ralph Surprise last night, I couldn't help but wonder how much less delicious it would be with Spicy Thai Chili sauce replacing my usual Sriracha Chili Sauce. When I was at Star Market the day before, they appeared to be out of my precious Sriracha, so I had to settle for the Thai Kitchen version. Upon giving it a taste, it wasn't quite the same. Not the right consistency, not enough kick. I already had all of the ingredients in the frying pan and the noodles in the pot, so going to Shaw's seemed impractical. I ran my predicament by Mike's girlfriend, Lauren, who suggested that I go to the store and get the real deal...otherwise I'd be ruining a big meal. I had to agree with her.

I put on my jacket and Adidas sandals and trudged out into the snow as my pots waited patiently on the stove. I arrived at Shaw's, took a direct route to the international foods section, and...no dice. It seemed though Shaw's no longer had the Sriracha sauce in stock either. More disturbingly, what was in stock was the Thai Kitchen Spicy Thai Chili sauce, which I then realized that I had never seen on the shelves before. If I didn't know better, I would say it looked like there had been a -- no, it couldn't be. Had there been a hostile takeover? A Sriracha overthrow? An international condiment coup d'etat? I was already commited to getting the real sauce, so I drove another two minutes up the road to Stop N' Shop. Again, I went to the international foods department. Noodles...curry sauce...ginger wasabe marinade and...Thai Kitchen Spicy Thai Chili Sauce! Noooooo! After shaking my fist in the air and letting out a tiny cry of dissapointment, I hung my head and slowly walked back to my car, knowing that true Ralph Surprise may never be served again. I suppose there is always mail-order Sriracha.

If this reading has not proven to be enough for you, please take a moment to indulge yourself in some online literature regarding my lovely lady lumps and/or Dutch uses for Christmas Carols. Have a good Wednesday.
